Location and Site Plan
Yelvertoft Marina is situated in the rolling
countryside of Northamptonshire, on the
Leicester section of the Grand Union canal. The M1 Junction 18 is only
a short distance away in nearby Crick Village.
Sitting on the summit, this is an idea location
for those who want lock free cruising with 23.25 miles
of canal to amble along, and should you feel a
desperate need for locking, Watford staircase is
at one end of the summit and the famous (or
infamous) Foxton staircase at the other.
Crossing over the canal bridge (no.18) from the marina,
a short stroll down the lane brings you into
the centre of Yelvertoft village, which has a
small post office selling newspapers and
groceries. The village has one public house;
The Knightly Arms which provides a good selection
of beers (so they tell me!) and can also
boast of having one of the best butchers in the
area.
Turn right at the end of the lane and a short
walk up the hill brings you to the lovely
church of All Saints. Continuing on
over the canal bridge (no. 19) will bring you full
circle back to the main entrance to the marina.
